This piece is dedicated to the now unsung hero of the Yangtse Incident in 1938. Simon was chief mouser of the HMS Amethyst and survived the shelling of the ship during the conflict. He was injured, but was able to recover and resume his mousing duties, as well as comfort the wounded and traumatized men. He was the only cat awarded prestigious Dickin Medal for brave animals in war and rests in the cemetery of the PDSA hospital in Ilford, England, along with twelve other recipients of the medal.
