The story of Medusa has many versions over the mellinia, ranging from monster to victim. In this piece I wanted to play into the story of her being an icon of feminism and victims of sexual assault. One of the stages of a jellyfish lifecycle is called the Medusa stage, so she is here as a Portuguese Man 'O War, standing on a rocky beach as a wave crashes behind her. In her right hand she holds the head of a bearded sailor, and in the right a tarnished bronze knife. The style is that of a turn of the century book illustration, with a line from James Russel Lowell's poem The Sirens.
