Laika Fine Art Print

This is a Gicleè style archival print on matte paper. It is available unframed or framed in modern gold or dark natural wood.

Not many dogs are more famous than Laika, the Soviet space dog. She was sent on a one way trip to become the first complex creature to orbit the earth. In this piece she is set against a deep blue celestial background, watching as Sputnik 2 launches away leaving an Art Nouveau stylized smoke trail behind it. The border is a subdued apple red, decorated with traditional Ukrainian pysanky egg symbols. Three edges contain Russian Orthodox iconography style enamel text in Russian, "Sputnik 2" (left), "November 3, 1957" (top), and "Laika" (right).
